Dental Hygiene is an important bi-annual checkup of your overall dental health. Dental hygiene is the practice of keeping the mouth, teeth and gums free of disease and other problems (such as halitosis). Dental hygiene is important to help prevent most types of dental disease such as tooth decay, as well as gum diseases, including gingivitis, and periodontitis.

This thorough treatment is carried out using advanced equipment, techniques and procedures by one of our competent and highly trained, licensed dental professionals. You can expect to be greeted by one of our dental hygienists who will make you as comfortable as possible in a relaxed friendly atmosphere.

Your typical cleaning appointment should take about 45 minutes to an hour depending on the specific treatment required. This procedure involves cleaning of the tooth surfaces to remove plaque and calculus from the surfaces of the tooth crown and the gums. Your typical hygienist appointment includes the removal of bacterial flora, cleaning pocket areas, scaling and then polishing your teeth.

Usually your oral hygiene treatment is scheduled at an interval of 6 months between appointments. However, a more frequent appointment may be necessary for effective treatment depending on the overall condition of your dental health and in consultation with Dr. Seidler.

Routine Dental prophylaxis

Prophylaxis includes scaling and polishing procedures to remove plaque, calculus and stains from your teeth and gums. Some patients may require more than one appointment or one extended appointment to complete a prophylaxis procedure depending on the examination by Dr. Seidler. Your comprehensive oral evaluation will include a thorough examination and evaluation of your overall oral health. The evaluation includes complete review of previous dental work as well as discussing your dental concerns.

Additional diagnostic and treatment may be considered. A medical history and a general dental health assessment and dental charting of any missing teeth. Treatment may also include restoration of gums. Advanced treatment is considered for patients primarily who suffer from periodontal disease or other gum disease problems. Be sure to address any concerns with your dental hygienist and Dr. Seidler.
